Your long time platonic love MISA has just married your older brother. Now you're left with no other choice but to foget the feelings you've always had for the woman that's just become your new sister.
I LOVE ONLY YOU.... (KIMI DAKE NI AI WO) is an erotic adventure game developed by TECHNOPOLIS SOFT and FAIRYTALE.
The game was released for the X68000, PC-98 and MSX-2 computer series.
I think TECHNOPOLIS may have taken the name for the game from a TV drama series that was airing in Japan around that time. And a comic series with the same name may also exist. However they're all completely unrelated to this production.
■THE STORY OF I LOVE ONLY YOU...
The main protagonist of this adventure is a high school student named 「AKIO HAYASAKA」. AKIO lost both of his parents in an accident, and ever since he's been living with his older brother SATOSHI to whom he's always considered his hero.
Just recently SATOSHI married his long time girlfriend 「MISA KONNO」 whom predictably has always been the secret unrequited love of AKIO.
The couple were supposed to be on their honeymoon trip in Oahu. But when MISA suddenly returns home alone, AKIO begins to suspect something is not right in their relationship.
As you can tell, the game is aptly set up like a TV drama, with the main premise being the always controversial subject of 「desiring your brother's wife」.
The Game Start screen shows you a picture of SATOSHI and MISA on their 「supposedly」happiest moment. I think this was an incredibly ingenious touch from the programmers, since I imagine right then most players probably found themselves thinking how their actions were going to end up affecting the happy couple.
Unfortunately it won't take you long to discover that the actual plot is incredibly shallow and just not really interesting. The interaction between characters feels trivial for the most part, and the dramatic tension is virtually non-existent.
I mean, SATOSHI whom you're supposed to feel bad for wanting to sleep with his wife, is such a non-caring, unapologetic jackass. During the few instances when he actually appears in the game, he's either having sex with other women or acting like a complete jerk. So more than anything you'll feel like you're actually doing him a favor for wanting to hook up with MISA.
Of course AKIO is not that different from his brother when you think about it, which makes the whole scenario all the more perplexing. Supposedly your character is in love with MISA, yet you will be spending the entire game engaging yourself in sexual activities with other women regardless.
I guess the fact that you're not as big of a jerk as SATOSHI is what's supposed to be making the big difference here.
Gameplay-wise the game follows the conventional command menu formula. You can clear the story in about half an hour or so without any trouble simply by going through the available command actions.
Depending on a couple of key choices during the course of the game, you may get one of the two possible endings : 「HAPPY END」 or 「IMPERFECTION END」. However the story and all events will remain exactly the same.
The character artwork was done by illustrator ORIKURA MAKOTO and it's certainly top-notch. Still, the overall graphical quality feels pretty uneven.
Basically all scenes with women in them will cover the entire display window, just as you'd normally expect. But any other scenes, like those of backgrounds or buildings, are only half the size and noticeably undetailed in comparison.
It's almost as if those scenes were done in a rush by a different person and only because he was forced to. Or maybe the progammers thought they wouldn't matter much in an erotic game anyway. Whatever the reason, they definitely drag down the game's presentation.
Really, the display window is already small enough as it is, so making even smaller sized scenes was just too lousy on the programmers part.
Surprisingly the music is by far and away the best part of the game. The soundtrack is certainly one of the best and most pleasing ones I've ever heard in an eroge production. So I'm not kidding when I say that the game might be worth playing if only for the sake music.
Still, I can't help but feel a little disappointed with the fact that such a fine soundtrack was wasted on an otherwise unremarkable game.
It's hard not to walk away from the game disappointed by the shallow plot and the lackluster cast of characters.
And it's easy to tell there was an obvious lack of effort on the part of whoever wrote the story, as if it was the last thing that was worked on. So while the game might look good and sound even better. The short and unsatisfying story makes this adventure game hard to recommend.
