Still trying to translate all the posts from my old blog. Please see this post for more info.
Also, please excuse any grammar and any other related errors you may find on this blog, as English is not my first language.
Today we will go back to 1990 and pay a visit to the the game center 「Z00N21」. Seems like a lively place.
There are no surprises inside. The place is a real otaku's paradise!
On the background we can spot a flyer or a game awkwardly named 「SPAGE FANTAGY」. Go figure...
MIKI (from SUPER REAL MAHJONG PIII) appears to be in her element at the sit down arcade cabinet. Which is strange considering she's the only girl at the place...
MIKI is playing a side-scrolling helicopter shooting game. SETA - whom are responsible the SUPER REAL MAHJONG series - also developed a few shooting games, mostly for TAITO.
Some of their most notable shooting games of the time include 「ARBALESTER」and 「SPECIAL FORCE U.A.G.」 However this game in particular is most likely a reference to 「TWIN EAGLE」which was released on the same year than SUPER REAL MAHJONG PIII (1988).
Huh...? Looks like MIKI is about to awaken to some hidden inner power.... Her playing skill level suddenly increases dramatically!
AMAZING TECHNIQUE ! ! ! MIKI is totally dominating the game and her score is skyrocketting! Who could've guessed she was such a STG maniac!
All of the otaku's at the game watch dumbfounded as they're being outdone by a bishoujo.
And that is it for the game center Z00N21 as seen in the original animation video 「SUPER REAL MAHJONG : NICE TO MEET YOU MIKI・KASUMI・SHOWKO」. It's too bad we didn't get see more of it.
This OVA was a strange production by the way. I mean, it's a promo anime for an adult mahjong eroge series that doesn't deal with mahjong and it's not for adults... Maybe the animation studio didn't got the memo.
